The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "You bring your disputes to me, and I am only a human being. Perhaps some of you are more eloquent in presenting their argument than others, so I judge between you based on what I hear. Whoever I rule in his favor concerning something that belongs to his brother by right, let him not take it, for I am only granting him a piece of the Fire which he will bring with him on the Day of Resurrection."
حدثنا أبو بكر بن أبي شيبة حدثنا وكيع حدثنا هشام بن عروة عن أبيه عن زينب بنت أم سلمة
قال رسول الله ﷺ إنكم تختصمون إلي وإنما أنا بشر ولعل بعضكم أن يكون ألحن بحجته من بعض وإنما أقضي لكم على نحو مما أسمع منكم فمن قضيت له من حق أخيه شيئا فلا يأخذه فإنما أقطع له قطعة من النار يأتي بها يوم القيامة
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Testimonies, Chapter on One Who Produces Evidence After Taking an Oath, no. 2680, 6967, 7169, from the hadith of Hisham, with this chain. Muslim narrated it in the Book of Judgments, Chapter Explaining that a Judge's Ruling Does Not Change the Reality of a Matter, no. 1713, from Ibn Abu Shayba, with this chain.
