The Messenger of Allah ﷺ granted permission for the sale of the ariyyah by estimating its yield in dried dates.Yahya explained, "The ariyyah is when a man buys the fresh dates of a few palm trees for his family's food, paying for them with an equivalent estimated amount of dried dates."
حدثنا محمد بن رمح أنبأنا الليث بن سعد عن يحيى بن سعيد عن نافع عن عبد الله بن عمر أنه قال
أن رسول الله ﷺ أرخص في بيع العرية بخرصها تمرا قال يحيى العرية أن يشتري الرجل ثمر النخلات بطعام أهله رطبا بخرصها تمرا
Bukhari related it in the Book of Sharecropping, in the chapter "A Man Who Has a Right of Passage or a Water Share in an Orchard or Palm Grove," hadith no. 2380, and Muslim related it in the Book of Sales, in the previous chapter, hadith no. 1539/61, from the hadith of Yahya bin Saeed, with this same wording.
