When the verse "But if you desire Allah and His Messenger" [Ahzab 33:29] was revealed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to me and said, "Ayesha, I am going to mention something to you, and you need not be hasty about it until you consult your parents."She said, "He knew, by Allah, that my parents would never have told me to part from him."She continued, "Then he recited to me, 'Prophet, say to your wives, If you desire the life of this world and its adornment...' [Ahzab 33:28] and the verses that follow. So I said, 'Is it about this that I should consult my parents? I have chosen Allah and His Messenger.'"
Bukhari transmitted it in the chapter, "Her saying, 'But if you desire Allah and His Messenger...' etc.," hadith no. 4786, as a suspended report, and Muslim in the Book of Divorce, the previous chapter, hadith no. 1475, from the hadith of Zuhri, with the same wording.
