Ali bin Abu Talib proposed to marry the daughter of Abu Jahl while he was already married to Fatimah, the daughter of the Prophet ﷺ. When Fatimah heard about this, she went to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Your people are saying that you do not get angry on behalf of your daughters, and here is Ali about to marry the daughter of Abu Jahl."Miswar said, the Prophet ﷺ then stood up, and I heard him as he gave the testimony of faith, then he said, "To proceed, I gave my daughter in marriage to Abu al-As bin Rabi, and he spoke truthfully to me and kept his word. Fatimah, the daughter of Muhammad, is a part of me, and I hate for anyone to put her through trial. By Allah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah and the daughter of the enemy of Allah shall never be joined together under one man."So Ali withdrew his proposal.
