I was unaware of anything until Zaynab entered upon me without permission, furious. She said, "Messenger of Allah, is it enough for you when the little daughter of Abu Bakr flips her wrists at you?" Then she turned on me, but I ignored her, until the Prophet ﷺ said, "Go ahead, defend yourself."So I turned to face her, and I kept at her until I saw that her saliva had dried up in her mouth and she could not respond to me with anything. Then I saw the Prophet's ﷺ face beaming with delight.
Sourcing, hasan. Ahmad narrated it, 6/93, from Ibn Abu Shayba with this chain, and Busiri graded it sahih according to the criteria of Muslim. It is also in Sunan al-Kubra, 16891/16892, from the hadith of Zakariya with this chain, and he is a mudallis (second category), and I did not find an explicit statement of his having heard it directly. It has a corroborating witness in Muslim, hadith 2442.
