The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was upset with Safiya bint Huyayy over something, so Safiya said, "Ayesha, would you reconcile the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with me, and you can have my day with him?"Ayesha replied, "Yes."She took one of her veils dyed with saffron and sprinkled it with water so its fragrance would spread, then sat beside the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.The Prophet ﷺ said, "Ayesha, move away from me. This is not your day."She replied, "That is the bounty of Allah which He grants to whomever He wills."Then she informed him of the arrangement, and he was reconciled with Safiya.
[Its chain of transmission is sahih] Ahmad narrated it (6/145 and elsewhere) from Affan and others, with the same wording. He narrated it again (6/131, 132) from Affan, with the same wording, and said "Shumaysah," and in it she said, "One day at midday, I suddenly saw the shadow of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ approaching."Sumayyah (Shumaysah) was declared trustworthy by Ibn Main (see Jarh wa Tadil), and Shubah narrated from her, and he would only narrate from someone he considered trustworthy.
