The Prophet ﷺ was asked about a man who has a wife, then divorces her, and another man marries her but divorces her before consummating the marriage. Can she return to the first husband? He said, "No, not until he tastes her sweetness."
Sourcing, [sahih] Nasai narrated it in volume 6, pages 148–149, no. 3443, Taliqat Salafiyyah no. 3443, and Ahmad in volume 2, page 85, from Muhammad bin Jafar, from the hadith of Shubah, with this wording. Sufyan Thawri contradicted him, narrating it instead from Alqama, from Razin bin Sulayman Ahmari, from Ibn Umar, with this wording. Razin, or Ibn Razin, is unknown, as stated in Taqrib. His hadith has many corroborating narrations, one of them being the previous hadith.Note, in Mujtaba by Nasai it appears as "Salm bin Zurayr," which is a scribal error, as established by our sheikh, the trustworthy imam, the meticulous scholar and hadith expert, Muhammad Ataullah Hunayf Fawjiyani, may Allah have mercy on him, in his notes. I later found it correctly recorded in Sunan al-Kubra of Nasai, no. 5607. How excellent he was!
