The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A man must not propose marriage over the proposal of his brother."
حدثنا هشام بن عمار وسهل بن أبي سهل قالا حدثنا سفيان بن عيينة عن الزهري عن سعيد بن المسيب
قال رسول الله ﷺ لا يخطب الرجل على خطبة أخيه
Bukhari transmitted it in Kitab al-Buyu, Bab la yabi ala bay akhihi etc., no. 2140, and others, and Muslim in Kitab al-Nikah, Bab tahrim al-khitbah ala khitbah akhihi hatta yadhan aw yatruk, no. 1413, from the hadith of Sufyan, at greater length.
