I came to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned to him a woman I intended to propose to. He said, "Go and look at her, for it is more likely to bring harmony between the two of you."So I went to a woman from the Ansar and proposed to her through her parents, informing them of what the Prophet ﷺ had said. They seemed to dislike the idea.The woman heard this from behind her curtain and said, "If the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded you to look, then look. Otherwise, I implore you not to," as though she considered it a serious matter.He said, So I looked at her and married her, and he mentioned how well-suited they were to each other.
حدثنا الحسن بن أبي الربيع أنبأنا عبد الرزاق عن معمر عن ثابت البناني عن بكر بن عبد الله المزني
أتيت النبي ﷺ فذكرت له امرأة أخطبها فقال اذهب فانظر إليها فإنه أجدر أن يؤدم بينكما فأتيت امرأة من الأنصار فخطبتها إلى أبويها وأخبرتهما بقول النبي ﷺ فكأنهما كرها ذلك قال فسمعت ذلك المرأة وهي في خدرها فقالت إن كان رسول الله ﷺ أمرك أن تنظر فانظر وإلا فأنشدك كأنها أعظمت ذلك قال فنظرت إليها فتزوجتها فذكر من موافقتها
[Its chain of transmission is sahih]. Tirmidhi narrated it in the Book of Marriage, chapter on looking at the woman one intends to propose to, no. 1087, from the hadith of Bakr, through him, and he said it is hasan, and Busiri graded it sahih.
