Abu Hurairah reported,

A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "I am ruined."The Prophet ﷺ asked, "What has ruined you?"The man replied, "I had relations with my wife during Ramadan."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Free a slave."The man said, "I cannot find one."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Fast two consecutive months."The man said, "I am unable."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Feed sixty poor people."The man said, "I cannot find the means."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Sit down."So he sat. While he was sitting, a large basket called an araq was brought to the Prophet ﷺ, and he said, "Go and give this in charity."The man said, "Messenger of Allah, by the One who sent you with the truth, there is no household between the two lava plains of Madinah more in need of it than us."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then go and feed it to your family."Harmala bin Yahya narrated to us, Abdullah bin Wahb narrated to us, Abdul-Jabbar bin Umar narrated to us, Yahya bin Saeed narrated to me from Saeed bin Musayab from Abu Hurairah from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ this same account, and he added, "And fast a day in its place."

عن أبي هريرة قال

أتى النبي ﷺ رجل فقال هلكت قال وما أهلكك قال وقعت على امرأتي في رمضان فقال النبي ﷺ أعتق رقبة قال لا أجد قال صم شهرين متتابعين قال لا أطيق قال أطعم ستين مسكينا قال لا أجد قال اجلس فجلس فبينما هو كذلك إذ أتي بمكتل يدعى العرق فقال اذهب فتصدق به قال يا رسول الله والذي بعثك بالحق ما بين لابتيها أهل بيت أحوج إليه منا قال فانطلق فأطعمه عيالك حدثنا حرملة بن يحيى حدثنا عبد الله بن وهب حدثنا عبد الجبار بن عمر حدثني يحيى بن سعيد عن سعيد بن المسيب عن أبي هريرة عن رسول الله ﷺ بذلك فقال وصم يوما مكانه
