They mentioned in the presence of Ayesha that Ali had been appointed as the executor of the Prophet's will.She said, "When did he make him his executor? I was supporting him against my chest, or in my lap, when he called for a basin. Then he slumped over in my lap and died without my realizing it. So when did he make a will ﷺ?"
حدثنا أبو بكر بن أبي شيبة حدثنا إسمعيل ابن علية عن ابن عون عن إبراهيم
ذكروا عند عائشة أن عليا كان وصيا فقالت متى أوصى إليه فلقد كنت مسندته إلى صدري أو إلى حجري فدعا بطست فلقد انخنث في حجري فمات وما شعرت به فمتى أوصى ﷺ
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Wills, the chapter on wills, hadith no. 2741, and Muslim in the Book of Wills, the chapter on leaving a will being unnecessary for one who has nothing to bequeath, hadith no. 1636, from Abu Bakr bin Abu Shayba and others, from the hadith of Ismail bin Ulaya, with the same wording.
