Anas bin Malik reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The most merciful of my community toward my community is Abu Bakr. The firmest of them in the religion of Allah is Umar. The most truly modest of them is Uthman. The best of them in judgment is Ali bin Abu Talib. The finest of them in reciting the Book of Allah is Ubayy bin Kaab. The most knowledgeable of them about what is lawful and unlawful is Muaz bin Jabal. The most versed of them in the laws of inheritance is Zayd bin Thabit. Know that every community has a trustworthy one, and the trustworthy one of this community is Abu Ubayda bin Jarra."In Ibn Qudama's version the wording is the same, except that regarding Zayd he says, "the most knowledgeable of them in the laws of inheritance."
