Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ followed a funeral procession, he would not sit down until the body was placed in the grave. A Jewish scholar once approached him and said, "This is how we do it, Muhammad."So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat down and said, "Differ from them."
حدثنا محمد بن بشار وعقبة بن مكرم قالا حدثنا صفوان بن عيسى حدثنا بشر بن رافع عن عبد الله بن سليمان بن جنادة بن أبي أمية عن أبيه عن جده
كان رسول الله ﷺ إذا اتبع جنازة لم يقعد حتى توضع في اللحد فعرض له حبر فقال هكذا نصنع يا محمد فجلس رسول الله ﷺ وقال خالفوهم
Its chain is daif. Abu Dawud narrated it in the Book of Funerals, Chapter on Standing for the Funeral, hadith no. 3176, from the hadith of Abu Asbat, Bishr bin Rafi, through this route. Tirmidhi said (hadith no. 1020) that it is rare, and that Bishr bin Rafi is not strong in hadith.Abdullah bin Sulayman is daif, and his father's hadith is rejected (as stated in Taqrib). The hadith has weak corroborating narrations.
