The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered that those killed at Uhud be returned to the places where they had fallen, for they had been carried to Madinah.
حدثنا هشام بن عمار وسهل بن أبي سهل قالا حدثنا سفيان بن عيينة عن الأسود بن قيس سمع نبيحا العنزي يقول سمعت
إن رسول الله ﷺ أمر بقتلى أحد أن يردوا إلى مصارعهم وكانوا نقلوا إلى المدينة
[Sahih] Reported by Abu Dawud, Book of Funerals, Chapter on the dead person being carried from one land to another and the dislike of that, no. 3165, from the hadith of Aswad bin Qays, transmitted through him. Tirmidhi graded it sahih, no. 1717, as did Ibn Khuzayma, Ibn Hibban, and others.
