He said to me, "Kurayb, get up and see whether anyone has gathered for my son."I said, "Yes."He said, "Goodness, how many do you reckon they are? Forty?"I said, "No, they are more than that."He said, "Then take my son out, for I bear witness that I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'There are no forty believers who intercede for a believer except that Allah accepts their intercession.'"

[Sahih] Tabarani transmitted it in Al-Kabir (11/408, no. 12158) through Ibrahim bin Munzir with this chain, and Muslim transmitted it (no. 948) through another route from Humayd bin Ziyad, that is Abu Sakhr, from Sharik bin Abdullah bin Abu Nimr, from Kurayb, the freed slave of Ibn Abbas, with this chain, with a slight difference, its wording being, "There is no Muslim man who dies and forty men who associate nothing with Allah stand at his funeral prayer, but Allah accepts their intercession for him."
