Umm Atiya reported, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came in to us while we were washing his daughter Umm Kulthum, and he said, 'Wash her three times, or five, or more than that if you think it necessary, with water and lote leaves, and put camphor, or something of camphor, in the last washing. When you have finished, let me know.' So when we had finished, we let him know, and he handed us his waist-wrapper and said, 'Shroud her in it.'"In Hafsa's version of the hadith it says, "Wash her an odd number of times." It also contains, "Wash her three times or five times." And it contains, "Begin with her right side and the places of wudu on her." And it contains that Umm Atiya said, "And we braided her hair in three plaits."
