The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came in to us while we were washing his daughter Umm Kulthum, and he said, "Wash her three times, or five, or more than that if you see fit, with water and lotus leaves, and put camphor, or a little camphor, in the final wash. When you are finished, let me know."When we had finished, we informed him, and he handed us his waist-wrapper and said, "Place this against her body."
Bukhari reported it, in the Book of Funerals, the chapter on it being preferred to wash the deceased an odd number of times, hadith no. 1254, from the hadith of Thaqafi. Muslim also reported it, in the Book of Funerals, the chapter on washing the deceased, hadith no. 939, from the hadith of Ayub, through the same chain.
