[Its chain of transmission is daif] Munziri said, "Its narrators are trustworthy and well known, except that Maymun bin Mihran did not hear from Umar." Hasan bin Arafah narrated it from Kathir, from Isa bin Ibrahim Hashimi, from Jafar, with the same wording, and this is an instance of an addition within a continuous chain of transmission. However, the route of Ibn Majah is also preserved, as shown by the explicit statement that Kathir heard directly from Jafar. Hafiz pointed out in Tahzib that this claim of direct hearing between Kathir and Jafar was mistaken, which would make the hadith extremely daif, since this Hashimi is one whose narrations are considered objectionable.
