The Prophet ﷺ said, "Is any of you unable, after completing his prescribed prayer, to step forward or backward, or move to his right or his left, to perform voluntary prayer?"
[Its chain of transmission is daif]. Reported by Abu Dawud, no. 1006, from the hadith of Layth bin Abu Salim, with this chain. Bukhari graded it daif in his Sahih, no. 848, saying, "It is not sahih." Layth's situation was mentioned earlier, no. 208, and Ibrahim is unknown. The hadith has daif corroborating narrations, and I did not find Ali's report in Musannaf Ibn Abu Shayba with this wording. Ibn Abu Shayba reported something similar from Ali with a daif chain, without the phrase "from the sunnah," and it contains a mudallis narrator who used an ambiguous transmission phrase. Abbad bin Abdullah's situation was mentioned earlier, no. 120.
