The Prophet ﷺ used to deliver his sermons leaning against a palm trunk. When a pulpit was made for him, he went to the pulpit instead, and the trunk began to moan. So he came to it and embraced it, and it grew quiet. He said, "Had I not embraced it, it would have kept moaning until the Day of Resurrection."
حدثنا أبو بكر بن خلاد الباهلي حدثنا بهز بن أسد حدثنا حماد بن سلمة عن عمار بن أبي عمار عن ابن عباس وعن ثابت
أن النبي ﷺ كان يخطب إلى جذع فلما اتخذ المنبر ذهب إلى المنبر فحن الجذع فأتاه فاحتضنه فسكن فقال لو لم أحتضنه لحن إلى يوم القيامة
[Its chain of transmission is sahih]. Ahmad relayed it: 1/249, 267, 363, from the hadith of Hammad, through the same route. Busiri said, "Its chain of transmission is sahih and its narrators are trustworthy." Ibn Kathir said, "This chain of transmission meets the criteria of Muslim" (al-Bidaya wal-Nihaya: 6/129).
