The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray two rakahs while traveling, never adding more, and he would perform tahajjud at night.I asked, "Did he also pray witr?"He replied, "Yes."
حدثنا أحمد بن سنان وإسحق بن منصور قالا حدثنا يزيد بن هارون أنبأنا شعبة
كان رسول الله ﷺ يصلي في السفر ركعتين لا يزيد عليهما وكان يتهجد من الليل قلت وكان يوتر قال نعم
Its isnad is daif. See hadith 356, for its defect. Busiri said, "This isnad is daif," etc.
