Marwan appointed Abu Hurairah as his deputy over Medina and then set out for Mecca. Abu Hurairah led us in the Friday prayer, reciting Surah al-Jumuah in the first rakah and "When the hypocrites come to you" [Munafiqun 63:1] in the second.Ubaydullah said, I caught up with Abu Hurairah after he finished and said to him, "You recited two surahs that Ali used to recite in Kufa."Abu Hurairah replied, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ reciting them."

استخلف مروان أبا هريرة على المدينة فخرج إلى مكة فصلى بنا أبو هريرة يوم الجمعة فقرأ بسورة الجمعة في السجدة الأولى وفي الآخرة إذا جاءك المنافقون قال عبيد الله فأدركت أبا هريرة حين انصرف فقلت له إنك قرأت بسورتين كان علي يقرأ بهما بالكوفة فقال أبو هريرة إني سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقرأ بهما
