A neighbor of mine from the Ansar and I were living among the tribe of Banu Umaya bin Zayd, in the upper district of Madinah. We used to take turns visiting the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He would go down one day and I would go down the next. Whenever I went, I would bring him back the news of that day concerning revelation and other matters, and when he went, he would do the same.One day, my Ansari companion went down on his turn and then knocked on my door violently, asking, "Is he there?"I was alarmed and came out to him.He said, "Something serious has happened."So I went in to see Hafsah, and there she was, weeping.I asked her, "Has the Messenger of Allah ﷺ divorced you all?"She replied, "I do not know."Then I entered upon the Prophet ﷺ and, while still standing, I asked, "Have you divorced your wives?"He said, "No."So I said, "Allahu Akbar."
حدثنا أبو اليمان أخبرنا شعيب عن الزهري ح قال أبو عبد الله وقال ابن وهب أخبرنا يونس عن ابن شهاب عن عبيد الله بن عبد الله بن أبي ثور عن عبد الله بن عباس
كنت أنا وجار لي من الأنصار في بني أمية بن زيد وهي من عوالي المدينة وكنا نتناوب النزول على رسول الله ﷺ ينزل يوما وأنزل يوما فإذا نزلت جئته بخبر ذلك اليوم من الوحي وغيره وإذا نزل فعل مثل ذلك فنزل صاحبي الأنصاري يوم نوبته فضرب بابي ضربا شديدا فقال أثم هو ففزعت فخرجت إليه فقال قد حدث أمر عظيم قال فدخلت على حفصة فإذا هي تبكي فقلت طلقكن رسول الله ﷺ قالت لا أدري ثم دخلت على النبي ﷺ فقلت وأنا قائم أطلقت نساءك قال لا فقلت الله أكبر
