Marwan bin Hakam and Miswar bin Makhrama reported that when the Muslims granted permission to free the captives of Hawazin, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I do not know which of you has given permission and which has not. Go back, and let your representatives bring your decision to us."The people returned, their representatives spoke with them, and then came back to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to inform him that the people had willingly agreed and given their permission.

أن مروان بن الحكم والمسور بن مخرمة أخبراه أن رسول الله ﷺ قال حين أذن لهم المسلمون في عتق سبي هوازن إني لا أدري من أذن منكم ممن لم يأذن فارجعوا حتى يرفع إلينا عرفاؤكم أمركم فرجع الناس فكلمهم عرفاؤهم فرجعوا إلى رسول الله ﷺ فأخبروه أن الناس قد طيبوا وأذنوا
