I came to the Prophet ﷺ along with two men from my tribe. One of the two men said, "Messenger of Allah, appoint us to a position of authority," and the other said the same.He replied, "We do not appoint to this office anyone who asks for it, nor anyone who is eager for it."

دخلت على النبي ﷺ أنا ورجلان من قومي فقال أحد الرجلين أمرنا يا رسول الله وقال الآخر مثله فقال إنا لا نولي هذا من سأله ولا من حرص عليه
