The Prophet ﷺ said, "You will be eager for positions of leadership, but it will be a source of regret on the Day of Resurrection. How excellent a wet-nurse it is, and how wretched a weaner."Muhammad bin Bashshar said, Abdullah bin Humran narrated to us, Abdul-Hameed bin Jafar narrated to us, from Saeed Maqburi, from Umar bin Hakam, from Abu Hurairah, as his own statement.
Bukhari reported the hadith of Ibn Abu Dhib, from Saeed, from Abu Hurairah, "You will be eager for authority, and it will be a source of disgrace and regret. What a good wet nurse it is, and what a bad weaner it is."He said, Abdul-Hameed bin Jafar also narrated it, from Saeed Maqburi, from Umar bin Hakam, from Abu Hurairah, as a mawquf narration, not marfu.
Hafiz said in Fath, regarding his statement "from Saeed Maqburi from Abu Hurairah," this is how Ibn Abu Dhib narrated it as a raised hadith, while Abdul-Hameed inserted a man between Saeed and Abu Hurairah and did not raise it. Ibn Abu Dhib is more precise than Abdul-Hameed and more knowledgeable about Maqburi's hadith than him, so his narration is the one relied upon. Bukhari followed it with the route of Abdul-Hameed, indicating that both versions could possibly be deemed correct. Perhaps Saeed had it both ways, from Umar from Abu Hurairah as a stopped narration, as Abdul-Hameed narrated it from him, and he also had it from Abu Hurairah directly without an intermediary as a raised narration, since each of the two narrators from Saeed was found to have an addition. The narration with raising does not contradict the narration with stopping, because the narrator might sometimes be energetic and so connect the chain, and sometimes not be energetic and so stop it. End of quote. He mentioned something similar in the introduction to Fath.I say, what is apparent is that preference should be given to the narration of Ibn Abu Dhib, for Ibn Main said, "The most reliable of people regarding Saeed is Ibn Abu Dhib," as stated in Tahdhib al-Tahdhib, volume 4, page 40, and he is more preferable than Abdul-Hameed, as can be known from Taqrib.
