I went with your father Zayd to visit Abdullah bin Amr, and he told us that the Prophet ﷺ was once told about how much I fasted, so he came to visit me. I threw down for him a leather cushion stuffed with palm fibers, but he sat on the ground, leaving the cushion between us.He said to me, "Is it not enough for you to fast three days of every month?"I said, "Messenger of Allah."He said, "Five."I said, "Messenger of Allah."He said, "Seven."I said, "Messenger of Allah."He said, "Nine."I said, "Messenger of Allah."He said, "Eleven."I said, "Messenger of Allah."He said, "There is no fasting beyond the fasting of Dawud, half of one's life. Fast a day and break a day."
