He said that he was ten years old when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived in Madinah, and he served the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for ten years during his lifetime.I was the most knowledgeable of people about the matter of the veil when it was revealed. Ubayy bin Kaab used to ask me about it. The first occasion of its revelation was on the morning the Messenger of Allah ﷺ consummated his marriage with Zaynab bint Jahsh. The Prophet ﷺ became a bridegroom with her that morning, so he invited the people, and they ate the meal and then left. A small group, however, remained with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and stayed for a long time.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ got up and went out, and I went out with him, hoping they would leave. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ walked, and I walked with him, until he reached the threshold of Ayesha's room. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ thought they had gone, so he turned back, and I turned back with him, until he entered upon Zaynab, only to find them still sitting there and not yet dispersed.So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned back again, and I turned back with him, until he reached the threshold of Ayesha's room. He thought they had gone, so he returned, and I returned with him, and this time they had indeed left. Then the verse of the veil was revealed, and a curtain was drawn between him and me.
حدثنا يحيى بن سليمان حدثنا ابن وهب أخبرني يونس عن ابن شهاب قال أخبرني
أنه كان ابن عشر سنين مقدم رسول الله ﷺ المدينة فخدمت رسول الله ﷺ عشرا حياته وكنت أعلم الناس بشأن الحجاب حين أنزل وقد كان أبي بن كعب يسألني عنه وكان أول ما نزل في مبتنى رسول الله ﷺ بزينب بنت جحش أصبح النبي ﷺ بها عروسا فدعا القوم فأصابوا من الطعام ثم خرجوا وبقي منهم رهط عند رسول الله ﷺ فأطالوا المكث فقام رسول الله ﷺ فخرج وخرجت معه كي يخرجوا فمشى رسول الله ﷺ ومشيت معه حتى جاء عتبة حجرة عائشة ثم ظن رسول الله ﷺ أنهم خرجوا فرجع ورجعت معه حتى دخل على زينب فإذا هم جلوس لم يتفرقوا فرجع رسول الله ﷺ ورجعت معه حتى بلغ عتبة حجرة عائشة فظن أن قد خرجوا فرجع ورجعت معه فإذا هم قد خرجوا فأنزل آية الحجاب فضرب بيني وبينه سترا
