The Prophet ﷺ said, "The likeness of the believer is like a green tree whose leaves do not fall and do not wither."The people said, "It is such-and-such a tree, it is such-and-such a tree."I wanted to say, "It is the date palm," but I was a young lad and felt too shy.Then he said, "It is the date palm."Shuba reported that Khubayb bin Abdul-Rahman narrated to us, from Hafs bin Asim, from Ibn Umar, a similar report, with this addition, "I told that to Umar, and he said, 'Had you said it, that would have been dearer to me than such-and-such.'"
حدثنا آدم حدثنا شعبة حدثنا محارب بن دثار قال سمعت
قال النبي ﷺ مثل المؤمن كمثل شجرة خضراء لا يسقط ورقها ولا يتحات فقال القوم هي شجرة كذا هي شجرة كذا فأردت أن أقول هي النخلة وأنا غلام شاب فاستحييت فقال هي النخلة وعن شعبة حدثنا خبيب بن عبد الرحمن عن حفص بن عاصم عن ابن عمر مثله وزاد فحدثت به عمر فقال لو كنت قلتها لكان أحب إلي من كذا وكذا
