Whenever the Prophet ﷺ led us on a raid against a people, he would not attack until morning came so he could observe them. If he heard the call to prayer, he would hold back, and if he did not hear it, he would launch the raid.We set out for Khaybar and reached them at night. When morning came and he heard no call to prayer, he mounted his horse, and I rode behind Abu Talha, my foot touching the foot of the Prophet ﷺ.The people came out to us with their baskets and shovels, and when they saw the Prophet ﷺ they cried out, "Muhammad, by Allah! Muhammad and his army!"When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw them, he said, "Allah is the Greatest! Allah is the Greatest! Khaybar is destroyed! When we descend upon the courtyard of a people, "evil is the morning of those who were warned" [Saffat 37:177]."
حدثنا قتيبة بن سعيد قال حدثنا إسماعيل بن جعفر عن حميد
أن النبي ﷺ كان إذا غزا بنا قوما لم يكن يغزو بنا حتى يصبح وينظر فإن سمع أذانا كف عنهم وإن لم يسمع أذانا أغار عليهم قال فخرجنا إلى خيبر فانتهينا إليهم ليلا فلما أصبح ولم يسمع أذانا ركب وركبت خلف أبي طلحة وإن قدمي لتمس قدم النبي ﷺ قال فخرجوا إلينا بمكاتلهم ومساحيهم فلما رأوا النبي ﷺ قالوا محمد والله محمد والخميس قال فلما رآهم رسول الله ﷺ قال الله أكبر الله أكبر خربت خيبر إنا إذا نزلنا بساحة قوم {فساء صباح المنذرين}
