Ayesha reported,

A man asked permission to see the Prophet ﷺ. When the Prophet ﷺ saw him, he said, "What a wretched member of his clan, and what a wretched son of his clan." But when the man sat down, the Prophet ﷺ greeted him with a cheerful face and was warm and welcoming toward him. After the man had left, Ayesha said to him, "Messenger of Allah, when you saw the man, you said such and such about him, then you greeted him with a cheerful face and were warm toward him."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Ayesha, when have you ever known me to use foul speech? The worst of people in rank before Allah on the Day of Resurrection is the one whom people avoid out of fear of his evil."
