A group of the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out on a journey until they camped near one of the Arab tribes. They asked the tribe for hospitality, but the tribe refused to host them. The chief of that tribe was then stung, and they tried every remedy for him, but nothing benefited him.Some of them said, "If you were to approach this group who have camped near you, perhaps one of them might have something."So they came to them and said, "Travelers, our chief has been stung, and we have tried everything for him, but nothing helps him. Does any of you have anything?"One of them replied, "Yes, by Allah, I do perform ruqyah. But by Allah, we asked you for hospitality and you refused to host us, so I will not perform ruqyah for you unless you grant us a payment."So they agreed with them on a flock of sheep. He then went and began spitting lightly and reciting "Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds," until the man was as if released from a binding cord. He got up and walked as though there had been nothing wrong with him.They paid them the agreed-upon payment in full. Some of the companions said, "Let us divide it."But the one who had performed the ruqyah said, "Do not do so until we come to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and mention to him what happened, then see what he commands us to do."So they came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and told him about it. He said, "How did you know that it was a ruqyah? You have done well. Divide it, and assign me a share along with you."

أن رهطا من أصحاب رسول الله ﷺ انطلقوا في سفرة سافروها حتى نزلوا بحي من أحياء العرب فاستضافوهم فأبوا أن يضيفوهم فلدغ سيد ذلك الحي فسعوا له بكل شيء لا ينفعه شيء فقال بعضهم لو أتيتم هؤلاء الرهط الذين قد نزلوا بكم لعله أن يكون عند بعضهم شيء فأتوهم فقالوا يا أيها الرهط إن سيدنا لدغ فسعينا له بكل شيء لا ينفعه شيء فهل عند أحد منكم شيء فقال بعضهم نعم والله إني لراق ولكن والله لقد استضفناكم فلم تضيفونا فما أنا براق لكم حتى تجعلوا لنا جعلا فصالحوهم على قطيع من الغنم فانطلق فجعل يتفل ويقرأ الحمد لله رب العالمين حتى لكأنما نشط من عقال فانطلق يمشي ما به قلبة قال فأوفوهم جعلهم الذي صالحوهم عليه فقال بعضهم اقسموا فقال الذي رقى لا تفعلوا حتى نأتي رسول الله ﷺ فنذكر له الذي كان فننظر ما يأمرنا فقدموا على رسول الله ﷺ فذكروا له فقال وما يدريك أنها رقية أصبتم اقسموا واضربوا لي معكم بسهم
