The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was once preoccupied with other matters one night and delayed the prayer until we had fallen asleep in the mosque, then woke up, then fallen asleep again, then woke up once more. Then the Prophet ﷺ came out to us and said, "There is no one on earth waiting for this prayer except you."Ibn Umar did not mind whether the prayer was performed early or delayed, so long as he did not fear that sleep would overcome him and cause him to miss its proper time. He used to sleep before it.
حدثنا محمود يعني ابن غيلان قال أخبرنا عبد الرزاق قال أخبرني ابن جريج قال أخبرني نافع قال حدثنا
أن رسول الله ﷺ شغل عنها ليلة فأخرها حتى رقدنا في المسجد ثم استيقظنا ثم رقدنا ثم استيقظنا ثم خرج علينا النبي ﷺ ثم قال ليس أحد من أهل الأرض ينتظر الصلاة غيركم وكان ابن عمر لا يبالي أقدمها أم أخرها إذا كان لا يخشى أن يغلبه النوم عن وقتها وكان يرقد قبلها
