Umar gave a sermon from the pulpit of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "The prohibition of khamr has been revealed. It comes from five things, grapes, dates, wheat, barley, and honey. And khamr is whatever clouds the mind. There are three matters I wish the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had not parted from us until he had given us clear instructions about, the grandfather's inheritance, kalalah, and certain forms of riba."The narrator said, I asked, "Abu Amr, what about something made in Sind from rice?"He replied, "That did not exist in the time of the Prophet ﷺ," or he said, "in the time of Umar."Hajjaj reported from Hammad, from Abu Hayan, with "Zabib" (raisins) in place of "grapes."
حدثنا أحمد ابن أبي رجاء حدثنا يحيى عن أبي حيان التيمي عن الشعبي
خطب عمر على منبر رسول الله ﷺ فقال إنه قد نزل تحريم الخمر وهي من خمسة أشياء العنب والتمر والحنطة والشعير والعسل والخمر ما خامر العقل وثلاث وددت أن رسول الله ﷺ لم يفارقنا حتى يعهد إلينا عهدا الجد والكلالة وأبواب من أبواب الربا قال قلت يا أبا عمرو فشيء يصنع بالسند من الأرز قال ذاك لم يكن على عهد النبي ﷺ أو قال على عهد عمر وقال حجاج عن حماد عن أبي حيان مكان العنب الزبيب
