Ayesha wanted to buy Barirah, but her owners refused unless they could stipulate that the right of guardianship would remain with them. She mentioned this to the Prophet ﷺ, who said, "Buy her and free her, for the right of guardianship belongs to the one who frees the slave."Some meat was brought to the Prophet ﷺ, and it was said, "This is what was given in charity to Barirah."He said, "It is charity for her and a gift for us."Adam narrated to us, Shuba narrated to us, and Wazad added that she was given the choice regarding her husband.
حدثنا عبد الله بن رجاء أخبرنا شعبة عن الحكم عن إبراهيم
أن عائشة أرادت أن تشتري بريرة فأبى مواليها إلا أن يشترطوا الولاء فذكرت ذلك للنبي ﷺ فقال اشتريها وأعتقيها فإنما الولاء لمن أعتق وأتي النبي ﷺ بلحم فقيل إن هذا ما تصدق به على بريرة فقال هو لها صدقة ولنا هدية حدثنا آدم حدثنا شعبة وزاد فخيرت من زوجها
