We were sitting with the Prophet ﷺ when a woman came offering herself to him in marriage. He looked her over carefully, lowering his gaze and then raising it, but he did not respond to her.Then one of his companions said, "Marry her to me, Messenger of Allah."He asked, "Do you have anything?"The man replied, "I have nothing."He said, "Not even an iron ring?"The man answered, "Not even an iron ring, but I will tear this cloak of mine and give her half and keep half."The Prophet ﷺ said, "No. Do you know any of the Quran?"He said, "Yes."He said, "Go, I have married her to you for what you know of the Quran."
حدثنا أحمد بن المقدام حدثنا فضيل بن سليمان حدثنا أبو حازم حدثنا
كنا عند النبي ﷺ جلوسا فجاءته امرأة تعرض نفسها عليه فخفض فيها النظر ورفعه فلم يردها فقال رجل من أصحابه زوجنيها يا رسول الله قال أعندك من شيء قال ما عندي من شيء قال ولا خاتم من حديد قال ولا خاتم من حديد ولكن أشق بردتي هذه فأعطيها النصف وآخذ النصف قال لا هل معك من القرآن شيء قال نعم قال اذهب فقد زوجتكها بما معك من القرآن
