The Prophet ﷺ said, "The best of you is the one who learns the Quran and teaches it."Abu Abdul-Rahman taught the Quran from the time of Uthman's rule until the days of Hajjaj, and he said, "That is what has placed me in this seat of mine."
حدثنا حجاج بن منهال حدثنا شعبة قال أخبرني علقمة بن مرثد سمعت سعد بن عبيدة عن أبي عبد الرحمن السلمي
عن النبي ﷺ قال خيركم من تعلم القرآن وعلمه قال وأقرأ أبو عبد الرحمن في إمرة عثمان حتى كان الحجاج قال وذاك الذي أقعدني مقعدي هذا
He also reported the hadith of Thawri and Shuba, from Alqama, "The best of you is the one who learns the Quran and teaches it," according to their differing versions.Saeed bin Salim narrated it from Thawri just as Yahya Qattan narrated it from him, but Ibn Mubarak, Waki, Abu Naeem, Abdul-Razzaq, Ubayd bin Bishr, and others differed from them.Qays, Abdullah bin Isa, Muhammad bin Jahada, Musa bin Qays Hadrami, Nadr bin Ishaq Sulami, Muhammad bin Jabir, and others narrated it from Alqama in agreement with Shuba's version, except that there is disagreement concerning Abdullah bin Isa as to whether his version was traced directly to the Prophet.Amr bin Qays, Masaar, Abu Yasa, Umar bin Numan, Muhammad bin Talha, Abu Hammad, Hafs bin Sulayman, Ayub bin Jabir, Salama Ahmar, and Ghiyath narrated it in agreement with Thawri's version, without mentioning Saad bin Ubayda in it.
