We were in Hims when Ibn Masud recited Surah Yusuf. A man said, "It was not revealed like this."Ibn Masud replied, "I recited it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he said, 'You have done well.'"While speaking with him, he caught the smell of wine on him and said, "Do you combine denying the Book of Allah with drinking wine?" He then carried out the prescribed punishment on him.
حدثني محمد بن كثير أخبرنا سفيان عن الأعمش عن إبراهيم
كنا بحمص فقرأ ابن مسعود سورة يوسف فقال رجل ما هكذا أنزلت قال قرأت على رسول الله ﷺ فقال أحسنت ووجد منه ريح الخمر فقال أتجمع أن تكذب بكتاب الله وتشرب الخمر فضربه الحد
