We were on a military expedition, and Sufyan once said, "in an army," when a man from the Muhajirun kicked a man from the Ansar from behind. The Ansari called out, "Help, Ansar!" and the Muhajiri called out, "Help, Muhajirun!"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ heard this and said, "What is this call of the days of ignorance?"They said, "Messenger of Allah, a man from the Muhajirun kicked a man from the Ansar."He said, "Leave it, for it is rotten."Abdullah bin Ubayy heard about this and said, "Have they really done so? By Allah, when we return to Medina, the mightiest among us will surely drive out the lowliest."This reached the Prophet ﷺ, so Umar stood up and said, "Messenger of Allah, let me strike off the neck of this hypocrite."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Leave him, lest people say that Muhammad kills his own companions."The Ansar outnumbered the Muhajirun when they first arrived in Medina, but later the Muhajirun grew in number.Sufyan said, "I memorized this from Amr."Amr said, "I heard Jabir say, 'We were with the Prophet ﷺ...'"
حدثنا علي حدثنا سفيان قال عمرو سمعت
كنا في غزاة قال سفيان مرة في جيش فكسع رجل من المهاجرين رجلا من الأنصار فقال الأنصاري يا للأنصار وقال المهاجري يا للمهاجرين فسمع ذلك رسول الله ﷺ فقال ما بال دعوى الجاهلية قالوا يا رسول الله كسع رجل من المهاجرين رجلا من الأنصار فقال دعوها فإنها منتنة فسمع بذلك عبد الله بن أبي فقال فعلوها أما والله لئن رجعنا إلى المدينة ليخرجن الأعز منها الأذل فبلغ النبي ﷺ فقام عمر فقال يا رسول الله دعني أضرب عنق هذا المنافق فقال النبي ﷺ دعه لا يتحدث الناس أن محمدا يقتل أصحابه وكانت الأنصار أكثر من المهاجرين حين قدموا المدينة ثم إن المهاجرين كثروا بعد قال سفيان فحفظته من عمرو قال عمرو سمعت جابرا كنا مع النبي ﷺ
