I was with my uncle when I heard Abdullah bin Ubayy bin Salul say, "Do not spend on those who are with the Messenger of Allah until they disperse from him. And if we return to Madinah, the mightier will surely expel the humbler from it."I mentioned this to my uncle, and my uncle mentioned it to the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ then summoned me, and I told him what I had heard. He sent for Abdullah bin Ubayy and his companions, and they swore that they had not said it. The Prophet ﷺ disbelieved me and believed them. I was overcome with such grief as I had never felt before, and I shut myself in my house. My uncle said to me, "What did you intend by this, that the Prophet ﷺ should disbelieve you and despise you?"Then Allah the Exalted revealed, "When the hypocrites come to you, they say, 'We bear witness that you are indeed the Messenger of Allah'" [Munafiqun 63:1]. The Prophet ﷺ sent for me, recited it, and said, "Allah has confirmed your truthfulness."
