I heard the Prophet ﷺ recite from the pulpit, "And they will call out, Malik, let your Lord finish us off" [Zukhruf 43:77].Qatada said that "an example for others" [Zukhruf 43:56] means a warning to those who came after them.Someone else said that "mounted upon" [Zukhruf 43:13] means having control over. One says, "So-and-so is a controller of so-and-so," meaning he has mastery over him. And the pitchers are jugs that have no spouts."The first of the worshippers" [Zukhruf 43:81] means, there is no such thing, so I am the first to refuse it. These are two forms of the word, a man may be called abid or abid.Abdullah recited it as, "And the Messenger said, My Lord."It is also said that "the first of the worshippers" [Zukhruf 43:81] means the first of the deniers, derived from abida, yabadu.Qatada said that "in the Mother of the Book" [Zukhruf 43:4] means the whole of the Book, the foundation of the Book.
