Abdullah bin Umar reported,

A man asked the Prophet ﷺ, while he was on the pulpit, "What do you say about the night prayer?"He replied, "Two by two. When one fears the approach of dawn, let him pray a single rakah, and that will make all his previous prayers an odd number for him."Ibn Umar used to say, "Make the last of your prayers an odd-numbered one, for the Prophet ﷺ commanded this."
