Kaab bin Malik reported,

Abdullah bin Kaab bin Malik, who served as the guide for Kaab bin Malik after he lost his sight, reported, I heard Kaab bin Malik narrating the story of when he stayed behind from the expedition of Tabuk. He said, "By Allah, I do not know of anyone whom Allah has tested with truthful speech and rewarded better than He has rewarded me. From the day I mentioned that to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ until this day of mine, I have never deliberately told a lie. And Allah عز وجل revealed to His Messenger ﷺ, 'Allah has already forgiven the Prophet, the Muhajirun, and the Ansar,' up to His saying, 'and be with those who are truthful'" [Tawbah 9:117–119].

كعب بن مالك

عن عبد الله بن كعب بن مالك وكان قائد كعب بن مالك قال سمعت كعب بن مالك يحدث حين تخلف عن قصة تبوك فوالله ما أعلم أحدا أبلاه الله في صدق الحديث أحسن مما أبلاني ما تعمدت منذ ذكرت ذلك لرسول الله ﷺ إلى يومي هذا كذبا وأنزل الله عز وجل على رسوله ﷺ {لقد تاب الله على النبي والمهاجرين والأنصار} إلى قوله {وكونوا مع الصادقين}
