Abdullah bin Salam heard about the arrival of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was in his orchard gathering dates. He came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "I will ask you about three matters that none knows except a prophet. What is the first sign of the Hour? What is the first food the people of Paradise will eat? And what causes a child to resemble his father or his mother?"The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Jibreel just informed me of these matters."Abdullah said, "Jibreel?"He said, "Yes."Abdullah said, "He is the enemy of the Jews among the angels."So the Prophet ﷺ recited this verse, "Whoever is an enemy to Jibreel, it is he who has brought it down upon your heart by Allah's permission" [Baqarah 2:97].Then the Prophet ﷺ said, "As for the first sign of the Hour, it is a fire that will gather people from the east to the west. As for the first food the people of Paradise will eat, it is the lobe of the fish's liver. As for the child, when the man's fluid precedes the woman's, the child resembles him, and when the woman's fluid precedes the man's, the child resembles her."Abdullah said, "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that you are the Messenger of Allah. Messenger of Allah, the Jews are a people of slander. If they learn of my conversion to Islam before you question them, they will slander me."The Jews then arrived, and the Prophet ﷺ asked, "What sort of man is Abdullah bin Salam among you?"They said, "He is the best of us and the son of the best of us, our chief and the son of our chief."He said, "What would you say if Abdullah bin Salam embraced Islam?"They said, "May Allah protect him from that."Then Abdullah came out and said, "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah."They said, "He is the worst of us and the son of the worst of us," and they disparaged him.Abdullah said, "This is exactly what I feared, Messenger of Allah."
حدثنا عبد الله بن منير سمع عبد الله بن بكر حدثنا حميد
سمع عبد الله بن سلام بقدوم رسول الله ﷺ وهو في أرض يخترف فأتى النبي ﷺ فقال إني سائلك عن ثلاث لا يعلمهن إلا نبي فما أول أشراط الساعة وما أول طعام أهل الجنة وما ينزع الولد إلى أبيه أو إلى أمه قال أخبرني بهن جبريل آنفا قال جبريل قال نعم قال ذاك عدو اليهود من الملائكة فقرأ هذه الآية {من كان عدوا لجبريل فإنه نزله على قلبك بإذن الله} أما أول أشراط الساعة فنار تحشر الناس من المشرق إلى المغرب وأما أول طعام يأكله أهل الجنة فزيادة كبد حوت وإذا سبق ماء الرجل ماء المرأة نزع الولد وإذا سبق ماء المرأة نزعت قال أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله وأشهد أنك رسول الله يا رسول الله إن اليهود قوم بهت وإنهم إن يعلموا بإسلامي قبل أن تسألهم يبهتوني فجاءت اليهود فقال النبي ﷺ أي رجل عبد الله فيكم قالوا خيرنا وابن خيرنا وسيدنا وابن سيدنا قال أرأيتم إن أسلم عبد الله بن سلام فقالوا أعاذه الله من ذلك فخرج عبد الله فقال أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله وأن محمدا رسول الله فقالوا شرنا وابن شرنا وانتقصوه قال فهذا الذي كنت أخاف يا رسول الله
