Kurayb reported that Ibn Abbas, Abdul-Rahman bin Azhar, and Miswar bin Makhrama sent him to Ayesha with this message.They said, "Convey our greetings to her, all of us, and ask her about the two units of prayer after Asr. We have been told that you pray them, yet word has reached us that the Prophet ﷺ forbade them."Ibn Abbas added, "I used to strike people alongside Umar to keep them from praying them."Kurayb said, "So I went in to her and delivered the message they had sent me with."She said, "Ask Umm Salama."So I went back and told them, and they sent me on to Umm Salama with the same question they had sent me to Ayesha with.Umm Salama said, "I heard the Prophet ﷺ forbid those two units. Yet once he prayed Asr and then came in to me, and some women of the Bani Haram of the Ansar were with me, and he prayed those two units. So I sent the servant girl to him and said, 'Stand beside him and say, Umm Salama says, Messenger of Allah, did I not hear you forbid these two units of prayer, and now I see you praying them? And if he motions with his hand, step back.' The girl did so, and he motioned with his hand, so she withdrew from him."When he had finished, he said, 'Daughter of Abu Umaya, you asked about the two units after Asr. Some people from Abdul-Qays came to me about the acceptance of Islam by their tribe, and they kept me from the two units that come after Dhuhr. These are those two.'"

حدثنا يحيى بن سليمان حدثني ابن وهب أخبرني عمرو وقال بكر بن مضر عن عمرو بن الحارث عن بكير أن

أن ابن عباس وعبد الرحمن بن أزهر والمسور بن مخرمة أرسلوا إلى عائشة رضي الله عنها فقالوا اقرأ عليها السلام منا جميعا وسلها عن الركعتين بعد العصر وإنا أخبرنا أنك تصليها وقد بلغنا أن النبي ﷺ نهى عنها قال ابن عباس وكنت أضرب مع عمر الناس عنهما قال كريب فدخلت عليها وبلغتها ما أرسلوني فقالت سل أم سلمة فأخبرتهم فردوني إلى أم سلمة بمثل ما أرسلوني إلى عائشة فقالت أم سلمة سمعت النبي ﷺ ينهى عنهما وإنه صلى العصر ثم دخل علي وعندي نسوة من بني حرام من الأنصار فصلاهما فأرسلت إليه الخادم فقلت قومي إلى جنبه فقولي تقول أم سلمة يا رسول الله ألم أسمعك تنهى عن هاتين الركعتين فأراك تصليهما فإن أشار بيده فاستأخري ففعلت الجارية فأشار بيده فاستأخرت عنه فلما انصرف قال يا بنت أبي أمية سألت عن الركعتين بعد العصر إنه أتاني أناس من عبد القيس بالإسلام من قومهم فشغلوني عن الركعتين اللتين بعد الظهر فهما هاتان
