The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, "Have you married, Jabir?"I replied, "Yes."He asked, "What kind, a virgin or a previously married woman?"I said, "No, rather a previously married woman."He said, "Why not a young girl with whom you could play?"I replied, "Messenger of Allah, my father was killed on the day of Uhud and left behind nine daughters, so I now have nine sisters. I disliked the idea of bringing in among them another inexperienced young girl like themselves. I preferred a woman who could comb their hair and look after them."He said, "You have done well."
