The wives of the Prophet ﷺ sent Uthman to Abu Bakr to ask for their share from what Allah had bestowed upon His Messenger ﷺ as spoils. I was the one who turned them away.I said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? Do you not know that the Prophet ﷺ used to say, 'We are not inherited from. Whatever we leave behind is charity'? He meant himself by this. The family of Muhammad ﷺ only eats from this property."So the wives of the Prophet ﷺ accepted what I told them.This charitable endowment then remained in the hands of Ali. Ali withheld it from Abbas and prevailed over him concerning it. Then it passed to Hasan bin Ali, then to Husayn bin Ali, then to Ali bin Husayn and Hasan bin Hasan, both of whom managed it in turn, then to Zayd bin Hasan. It is truly the charitable endowment of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
قال فحدثت هذا الحديث عروة بن الزبير فقال صدق مالك بن أوس أنا سمعت
أرسل أزواج النبي ﷺ عثمان إلى أبي بكر يسألنه ثمنهن مما أفاء الله على رسوله ﷺ فكنت أنا أردهن فقلت لهن ألا تتقين الله ألم تعلمن أن النبي ﷺ كان يقول لا نورث ما تركنا صدقة يريد بذلك نفسه إنما يأكل آل محمد ﷺ في هذا المال فانتهى أزواج النبي ﷺ إلى ما أخبرتهن قال فكانت هذه الصدقة بيد علي منعها علي عباسا فغلبه عليها ثم كان بيد حسن بن علي ثم بيد حسين بن علي ثم بيد علي بن حسين وحسن بن حسن كلاهما كانا يتداولانها ثم بيد زيد بن حسن وهي صدقة رسول الله ﷺ حقا
