Abdullah bin Masud reported,

I witnessed a moment from Miqdad bin Aswad that I would have rather been the one to experience than anything else. He came to the Prophet ﷺ while he was praying against the polytheists and said, "We will not say as the people of Musa said, 'Go, you and your Lord, and fight'. Rather, we will fight on your right, on your left, in front of you, and behind you."I saw the face of the Prophet ﷺ light up with joy, and his words pleased him.

حدثنا أبو نعيم حدثنا إسرائيل عن مخارق عن طارق بن شهاب قال سمعت

ابن مسعود يقول

شهدت من المقداد بن الأسود مشهدا لأن أكون صاحبه أحب إلي مما عدل به أتى النبي ﷺ وهو يدعو على المشركين فقال لا نقول كما قال قوم موسى {اذهب أنت وربك فقاتلا} ولكنا نقاتل عن يمينك وعن شمالك وبين يديك وخلفك فرأيت النبي ﷺ أشرق وجهه وسره يعني قوله

Allah's saying, "When you called upon your Lord for help, He responded to you, 'I will reinforce you with a thousand angels following one another.' And Allah made it not except as glad tidings and so that your hearts would be assured thereby. And victory is not except from Allah. Indeed, Allah is Mighty and Wise. When He covered you with drowsiness as security from Him and sent down upon you water from the sky to purify you thereby and remove from you the evil of Satan and to strengthen your hearts and make firm thereby your feet. When your Lord inspired the angels, 'I am with you, so strengthen those who have believed. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieved, so strike upon their necks and strike from them every fingertip.' That is because they opposed Allah and His Messenger. And whoever opposes Allah and His Messenger, indeed Allah is severe in punishment."
