The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat on the pulpit and said, "Allah gave one of His servants a choice between being granted as much of the splendor of this world as he wished and what is with Him, and he chose what is with Him."Abu Bakr wept and said, "We ransom you with our fathers and mothers."We were astonished at him, and the people said, "Look at this old man. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ tells him about a servant whom Allah gave a choice between the splendor of this world and what is with Him, and he says, 'We ransom you with our fathers and mothers.'"But the Messenger of Allah ﷺ himself was the one given the choice, and Abu Bakr was the most knowledgeable of us about it.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Among the people most generous to me in his companionship and his wealth is Abu Bakr. If I were to take a close friend from my community, I would have taken Abu Bakr, but the brotherhood of Islam is sufficient. Let no door remain open into the mosque except the door of Abu Bakr."
