The Messenger of Allah ﷺ fell from his horse and injured his leg, or his shoulder, and he vowed to keep away from his wives for a month. He stayed in an upper room of his that had a staircase made from palm trunks. His companions came to visit him, and he led them in prayer while sitting, while they stood behind him. When he finished the prayer, he said, "The imam is appointed only to be followed. When he says the takbir, say the takbir. When he bows, bow. When he prostrates, prostrate. And if he prays standing, pray standing."He came down after twenty-nine days, and they said, "Messenger of Allah, you vowed to stay away for a month."He replied, "The month is twenty-nine days."
